Save Your Hair & Your Hair Loss Problem

Save Your Hair
By Doug Setter

A friend of mine, in his early 20’s, once went to work in South America for a Christian organization. He came back to Canada in about 4-6 months, looking quite a bit skinnier and missing a good chunk of his hair. I was curious about his working conditions and the South American diet. It turned out that he lived almost exclusively off of canned goods for those several months. The rest of his family had full heads of hair, so I do not think that it was genetics that caused his hair to fall out.

After a few weeks of fresh food, he started to look better and his hair seemed to thicken. I did not see him since, so I can only hope that the good nutrition brought back his hair.

Hair is made up largely of proteins. Protein, certain vitamins and minerals are essential in any cell growth and rejuvenation. So, if you want to cover the nutrition side of the house, ensure that you are eating between 50 and 150 grams of protein per day. That can be found in eating eggs or lean meats at every meal. Eat more lean protein and less starch. I often eat 2 chicken breast sandwiches without the bread! (Note: The white flour bread has little or not food value and just makes you feel fuller.)

Next to protein, you should be getting enough Vitamin B-complex, along with vitamins A and C and minerals such as: iron, iodine, copper and cobalt (found in vitamin B12). Beef liver once or twice a week can supply you with most of the B vitamins and minerals. As bland as it can taste, beef liver is packed with nutrients. (Don’t eat if you have gout.)

To get your vitamins and minerals, include wheat germ, sprouts, molasses, leafy greens, fresh fruit, seaweed and fish. These are all cheap and easy to access foods. You might consider packing your own lunch to get fresh food instead of the fast food route.

Foods to avoid: Coffee, processed starches and sugar. These will interfer with processing nutrients.

Exercise is also important, as it improves circulation, releases toxins and lowers stress.

Another proven method for hair growth is regular scalp massages. If you cannot afford one, do it yourself, when you shampoo your hair. Then rinse with cold water. Yep, cold water is great for the circulation. Good luck.
