Some say that baldness or hair loss is due to wearing of hats. Others says it is because of lack of Vitamin D. Still others say it is due to lack of blood circulation in the head. The truth is none of these are true.
Experts say that baldness, or alopecia, is primarily caused by a combination of aging, hormonal changes and family history of baldness on both parent’s sides. There are generally two types of hair loss:
Anagen effluvium – Permanent hair loss caused by the destruction of hair follicles Telogen effluvium – Temporary hair loss due to transitory damage to the follicles Anagen effluvium is generally due to internally administered medications, such as chemotherapy agents, that poison the growing hair follicles. Telogen effluvium is due to an increased number of hair follicles entering the resting stage. There are several common causes of telogen effluvium. One is physical stress due to surgery, illness, anemia, rapid weight change. Another could be caused by emotional stress such as mental illness or death of a family member. Still others could be due to illness like thyroid abnormalities. Taking medications can also contribute to temporary hair loss like taking high doses of vitamin A (sometimes present in diet supplements), blood pressure medication, and gout medications. Finally, hormonal changes may also cause hair loss. These changes may be due to birth control pills,pregnancy, and menopause.
So now you know the basic truth about the causes of hair loss, you can now understand why there are established hair replacement methods to solve it.
