Diets To Combat Hair Loss
By Caven Wong
Hair grows from our scalp and for it to grow properly our scalp must be kept in a healthy condition to ensure the hair’s proper growth. The best advice that anyone would give a person suffering from hair loss is a healthy balanced diet.
This may be simple to understand, but without proper nutrition, the overall body function including hair growth will be affected. One of the trick is to keep everything low fat. High-fat or oily food in our diet will cause our skin to eliminate the excess oil through the pores.
This elimination process can cause some blockages, this is the reason for pimple growth in some but on our scalp, these blockages will result to dandruff and dandruff is one of the primary reasons for hair loss.
If you are trying to correct hair loss through proper diet, here are a few suggestions to help you choose which food to prepare in your next meal:
1. Green, leafy vegetables. They are a rich source of vitamins, iron and antioxidants. Lettuce, cabbages, broccoli and seaweed are examples of these. When buying, always remember that the darker the better. Vegetables promote blood circulation to make your scalp healthy and encourage fast hair growth.
2. Eat more lean white meat. You can get this from fish and chicken meat without the skin. Fish oil has anti oxidants while chicken meat will provide you the necessary protein for hair growth without the fat. After all hair is composed of protein just like our nails.
3. Avoid red meat or minimize its consumption. Studies have shown that a chemical called DHT interferes with hair follicle growth and actually destroys them. Frequent red meat diet can cause increased DHT in the body resulting to male pattern baldness in men.
4. Eat more potatoes. Silica is an important chemical that helps hair growth. This is present in potatoes and they can be found in beans, red and green peppers also
5. Vitamin E rich food. Vitamin E, an antioxidant is an essential nutrient for both skin and hair. This vitamin will not only give you fuller hair, but one that is glowing and shiny.
6. Drink plenty of Water. Water is the best hydrating system for your scalp, giving it moisture and encourages hair growth. The recommended amount is at least eight glasses of water a day for adults.
People who are suffering from hair loss should look at their diet and eat healthily as they can. It is advisable also that you take vitamin supplements to help maintain the right amount of vitamins and minerals needed for hair growth.
